Unable to install WidSets

Yep, it's little bit too late to know that WidSets installation should be done into phone memory...

The link gives hints to remove some old WidSets files but not all ones and that's unfortunately not enough to reinstall application (tried, didn't work).
Link above mentions where application installation files (*.jar) is saved but where and what named files there will be after installation is still mystery. Mainly because different localisation, resourcing, database files have so complex names...something like 1003af3f.* (where * is application's certain type of file).

But I finally found solution that helped myself. I had installed application to mass memory so I connected terminal to computer with USB cable and used 'Data transfer' mode which will stop mass memory and after that tried installation with terminal still connected to computer and it worked automatically to phone memory => now WidSets is working again.

Thanks Tana for hints!

Hi dj,

there has been many changes to 1.0.7 version if that's the one you used to use? After that we have had 2.0 version and now the latest is 3.0.3. The mobile client has changed a lot and it is possible that some mobile cannot run WidSets anymore.

I don't know which version you have in use, but it's good to check out the thread that I just posted: https://www.widsets.com/forum/post/276183875/ or try to reload the 2.0 version from this link if it works on your mobile device still: https://www.widsets.com/forum/topic/2/261085186/1/

Hi,

Yesterday I installed Widsets on my E90 and N95 !
There are no issues I face with N95 so far but in E90 I have a major problem while using widsets.

When I try to exit the application, it does'nt really seem to work; instead it gets stuck until I restart my phone.

Thats really a weired behaviour !

So is it me, or my E90 or widsets?

Widsets won't connect

Just installed Widsets, and upon running it... it won't connect.
I have a Motorola A1200 with an active data plan, it is working and everything else connects... yet Widsets...WON'T.

It's telling me I need to connect via Internet/GPRS or WLAN access point, and not to use a WAP access point.

And to change the access point by going into my settings manually to GPRS.

I'm not EXACTLY sure what that means... butr I have AT&T and in my Data network settings it says "wap.cingular" under "GPRS setting".

Again... I'm not exactly sure about what this means.
But I also know my phone is EDGE enabled as well.

What do I need to do to make it connect?

Bear in mind AT&T doesn't want to support my phone or answer questions about my phone, as they don't sell it and it's an unlocked phone.

And it's also telling me if I can't change the settings, to "oreder them from my operator"...?
Again... AT&T doesn't support my phone and doesn't seem to wanna hear about it.

Also... why do I need to change things that already work fine on my phone... just to get this app to work?

Will the other things on my phone work afterward?

Other similar apps like Mesaa Info Booth that I downloaded work just fine with my present settings

For what it's worth... it's also telling me the exact error message is:

"java.io.IOException"

Thanks.

Hi momcat1,

I believe this is a feature of Java apps. that the access point is checked. In S60 devices you should be able to se a default access point:

- go to Application Manager
- Find WidSets from the list
- Press Options
- Choose Open
- Select "Access Point"
- Find the wanted default access point from the list and that's about it

Not sure if this setting could be part of WidSets itself, but I will check it.

can no longer use Widsets since June update

Isn't there something that can be done with the code, to make Widsets work properly on an SD card?

Additionally, even though it does run when installed on phone memory, any other activity on the phone forces Widsets to close immediately.

Working slower from SD is a feature of older S60 phones (with 2.x and 3.1 Series60 software). It got a lot better in 3.2, that is used in newest phones. N78 and so on.

Phone closing WidSets has to do with the actual memory usage (ram). Symbian platform shuts down programs that are on background if foreground program needs more memory than is available.

How many widgets you have on your dashboard? You can also monitor the memory usage by turning Diagnostic mode on in WidSets settings and then selecting "Show memory" from Diagnostic menu.

I have E90 and it has a lot of ram. I can ran 2 different versions of WidSets, browser, music player and Putty at the same time. There are 34 widgets on my dashboard and "Show memory" tells that it's using 3.5Mb of Java heap, of course the actual memory footprint is higher as the Java virtual machine itself uses some megs of memory.

There have been also some phones where there is a platform bug that some applications (WidSets in this case) cannot be removed at all.

To improve WidSets usage with Series60 phones (older than 3.2, so generally all phones) you should install WidSets to phone memory instead of memory card.

Hi Chris,

with the simple template on the website, you can create a RSS feed reader type of widget. This means e.g. some latest news from the internet. The internet is full of different kind of RSS feeds that you can find from many pages. This feed url should be pasted or written to this create a widget page, and you can able to proceed with the creation process.

To create a chess widget you need to have some sw coding skills. More information how to develop an advanced widget can be found from [url]www.forum.nokia.com[u/url]

I can also pass this wish to our own widget factory, if we would take the idea to implementation, or if anyone of widget developers is reading this thread - here's a good idea for a new widget!

have you seen this thread about dead icon and tips how to get rid of it? https://www.widsets.com/forum/topic/2/163470178/1/

With S60 devices it's important to install Java apps on phone's memory to avoid dead icons when upgrading the applications. And it would be good to uninstall the old version before installing the new one.

I hope you find help from this post.
