Using Widsets as a standby application (For SE users)

This one is for users of the latest generation of Sony Ericsson phones:

(K790,K800 and onwards... this should work with all JP-7 phones).

You might or might not be aware of your phone's ability to use a Java application like a wallpaper (much as you would use any picture)...

In any case here is how to get this feature working with widsets.

I'm assuming you've downloaded the widsets app from the site and not from some third party.

First: To extract the Jar and Jad

1) Get yourself a Java file manager. The trial version of mobyexplorer 3 is perfect. (wap.bermin.com)

2) Make sure widsets is saved on the memory card. (More -> move to MS)

3) Use mobyexplorer to navigate to E:/system. Go to the properties of this folder (in mobyexplorer) And turn off the 'hidden' property.

4) Use the built in file manager to navigate to e:/system/ams(the system folder will now be visible) and look for the 2 widsets 'java' files(the .jad and .jar files - they will be denoted by the java icon). Copy these two files to your 'other folder.

5) Now use mobyexplorer to navigate to your other folder and copy the 2 files to some other folder (in your other folder). Say, other/widsets.

Now you basically have the jar and jad files. If you already have widset's Jar and Jad files this is not necessary.

Now we shall modify the jad file.

1) Its easier with a PC (but you can do this with mobyexplorer as well!). Open the jad file with notepad.

2) Add this line at the end: 'SEMC-Standbyapplication: Y' (Without the quotes)

3) Save. :)

And finally reinstalling tha app:

1) Make sure your modified JAD and JAR are in the same folder (on the phone)

2) Install using the JAD file. MAKE SURE YOU INSTRUCT THE PHONE TO PRESERVE THE EXISTING DATA.

3) Move your app back to the phone memory (has to be in phone memory to be used as a standby application).

Now you will be able to use widsets as a standby application (it will appear on your home screen) (Go to display->wallpaper->application to select widsets).

You can now do neat things like open a clock widget in widsets and minimise widsets. Now when your in the home screen the clock widget will be your background!

Hi,
do you know if (and hopefully how) WidSets can be used as a standby application for Nokia handsets?
It would be really great for me!
