Tips for N95/E90 - WidSets does not open anymore

Hi WidSeteers,

There's been a lot of discussion and problems with WidSets and N95 (also with E90 and possibly some other S60 phones). WidSets does not work anymore, only able to see a dead icon etc. This mostly happens when WidSets is installed to memory card.

Here's some tips how to prevent this kind of situations, or how to get WidSets working again:

Before updating WidSets version, please remove manually the previous version. You can do it on the mobile grid: Press Options - Remove or do the removal via Application Manager. After removal re-install WidSets e.g. by going with your mobile browser to get.widsets.com page and using the "login" in the end of the page to get your customized client.

(UPDATE: We have a new wap site widsets.mobi - that's an easy way to download WidSets or check out the FAQs)

Another way to re-install WidSets is to login to www.widsets.com, open My Profile and then Settings page. There you find the "Reload" button. Use that to send a text message to your mobile and install WidSets that way.

If you already have a dead icon, check with the PC (USB cable and data transfer mode) the file system of your memory card. Go to folder:
E:\Private\102033E6\MIDlets. This includes all the files of all Midlets installed into your mobile. Try to find the one that includes WidSets jar file. This should erase the non-working WidSets icon.

For myself, the only way to get rid of dead WidSets icon was to format the memory card. This is the ultimate solution.

If a dead icon does not bother you, you can have WidSets installed into your phone memory by first removing the memory card and then installing WidSets (see the installing instructions in the first part of this message). This leads to a case that you have now two WidSets icons on the grid: one is working another doesn't :( But WidSets works anyway!

I used to have WidSets installed to phone memory - that time I didn't have any problems. These problems seem to appear to some users if WidSets is installed to memory card. I would suggest to use phone's memory.

I hope this helps many of you. All we can do so far is to give you tips to go on and get WidSets working again, as this seems to be the only way to help the annoying situation.

Maybe I'm in wrong place now, but I have tried several times to install Widset in my new E90 V07.40.1.2, but allways come information could not install, in finnish; ei voi asentaa.
What to do? Juulia

Hi Juulia,

are you trying to install it to memory card or phone's memory? I would suggest to install to phone's memory as it is a S60 device. If it fails again, remove the memeory card from the device and try again. It should work, at least I have read comments at the Forum that this way it works.

It is a strange thing that for some people installation works ok, and for other ones no.

Have you used WidSets before in E90?

Hi, thanks for advice. I had it on E90 memorycard. It was extremely slow, crashing, on practice not working. I have just reinstalled to phone memory. Seems to work well!

I would , however, want to know if this i "normal" on a E90 or if there is a hardware problem on my 3 weeks old E90? Or is the memory card generally unusable for applications on E90?

Perhaps you can pass this on to someone responsible for E90?

Thanks for your comments. Please note that I have installed Widsets on my E90 Phone's memory. And it is a dead icon.
Any way to remove this dead icon while installed on phone's memory of E90?

we have noticed differences between memory cards and WidSets. Some cards are faster than the other ones.

I have also heard someone complaining that WidSets has been very sluggish, but it started to work smoothly after re-installation.

I will forward you comments to E90 guys.

hmmm... do you get any pop up / note when trying to remove the dead icon? My understanding is that dead icon appears only when installed to memory card.
