Certificate error

peppe  2007/05/10 13:12 UTC

Hello,

I have a Nokia E61i. I signed up for WidSets today, got an SMS, clicked on the URL, downloaded it and installed it. As it was installed and downloading the initial widgets, I got an error message that there's no more storage space free (not with those exact words but close) and all images wouldn't be able to load. I quit the app and tried to restart, but it no longer started. I then proceeded to reboot the phone and when it came back up again, the entire memory card which I had installed on was corrupted and wouldn't even re-format. I tried to reformat on both my E61i and on a co-workers N95. Same result on both - card is dead.

Well, no worries.. The card might have been bad to begin with as I had never really used it until this point (brand new card). I just went ahead and re-installed by re-clicking on the URL in the SMS. By the way, somewhere in-between here I changed my password and verified the account by clicking on the link in the email. When the download was done, the application refuses to install and complains that the certificate is not valid, or similar.

I went to the website, clicked on "reload widsets" and got a new SMS, clicked the link in that, but still it refuses to run.

I then went to get.widsets.com and downloaded a new app from there but again, it won't work.

I also tried to download with my web browser, checked the .jar URL in the .jad file and fetched it and saved it. I then edited the .jad file to point to the local .jar file and ran it in WTK 2.5 and it works fine. I then Bluetoothed the .jad and .jar to my phone and installed it - got an error about the certificate. I Bluetoothed them to the N95 and get the same error there.

Something's fishy.. :)

If you need more information or want to test a fix or something, let me know. You can contact me by phone (my number is attached to the account so you can probably get it from there) or by email at petrus dot lundqvist miukumauku satama piste com.

Cheers,
Peppe

PS I don't blame you guys for the memory card corruption ;)

Hello Peppe,

I am really sorry to hear all the troubles you have had with our service. We are doing our best to get things solved here.

What comes to the memory card issue, we have also tested it and turned out that everything went ok and Widsets are running perfectly. As you mentioned, it is possible that there was something wrong with the memory card already in the beginning. If you face this kind of situations in the future, we are surely interested to know more about those cases and act on them.
Here's details of our test set-up:

Nokia E61i and memory card 2GB

SW:
1.0633.22.05
15-02-07
RM-227
NokiaE61i-1

About the second case, we are currently investigating the issue and we have been in contact with required parties as well. We are doing our best to solve this problem as soon as possible.
I think Antti has had some discussion on the similar issue in this tread, I hope it helps you as well:

Once again, sorry for the inconvenience and I hope you still got the faith in us :)

Cheers,

Taina

Hi Taina,

Just for your information I installed Widsets on an old 6680 (i.e. on a 64MB MMC) yesterday. It all worked perfectly the whole day until the application crashed in the evening and I had to restart the phone. I didn't bother about that until this morning when I tried to re-start the application. It refused to start so I restarted the phone once more but it still didn't work. I went into the App Manager and some apps on the MMC now shows as e:/system/.... and I'm not able to launch these apps anymore. However, I can launch some apps as well as access photos and other data on the MMC. Nevertheless, it seems that the MMC is somehow corrupted...

SW:
V 3.04.37

RM-36

Cheers,
krafa

My SW version:

1.0633.22.05
15-02-07
RM-227
Nokia E61i-1

So exactly the same version as yours.. The 1GB card I had was a SanDisk card.

By the way, before the app crashed the first time and before the card got corrupted the app was complaining that it couldn't write all images because the RMS was full. Since "krafa" had a very similar thing happen, my money would be on that there's some sort of bug in the S60 implementation of the RMS that causes corruption in certain circumstances. It sounds a little far fetched that two people with S60 phones have their memory card get corrupted while running WidSets but that it would be unrelated to the Widsets/Java/S60 stack and pure coincidence!

Of course it could be that we all have memory cards from the same faulty batch or something - I bought mine at the same time as the phone, about a month ago.

The certificate problem was most likely an unrelated problem..

Peppe-

I can possibly address the certificate error.

If you have bought your handset under a contract from service provider it is possibly a locked handset and is running a firmware version which is customised by the service provider.

Is your phone locked to the operator??

I've installed Widsets on my N73, and so far so good, no problems (fingers crossed). I installed mine via "Catalogs" on my handset and registered via my PC.
I notice a few of you have installed to memory card. Maybe Widsets needs to be installed to the phone memory, (where I installed mine).
Memory cards become fragmented over time, so it could be this that's causing the problems. Just a suggestion ;-j

Also with regards to the "Certificate Error". I've seen this a few times on my N73, when installing themes and other software. To cure it I rolled the date back in the clock settings (about 6 - 12months worked) and so far everything that initially gives a "Certificate Error" installs after this little tweak.
Hope that lot is of some use to you ;-j

Hi everyone,

After profound investigation and testing on the issue, we haven't found a way how WidSets would be related to the memory card corruption as Java sandbox protects the host environment and thus no application should be able to e.g. corrupt.

It is really unfortunate that some of you have faced the memory card corruption. If you still face the problem in the future, we would be interested to hear about it.

WidSets can be installed to the phone memory or to the memory card, both.

Nope, it's not locked to the operator. And by the way, later on the problem just went away and I was able to install the app again. So whatever it was, it was intermittent.
