About new very recently launched mobiles....

tsihvola  2006/05/26 09:26 UTC

Are you getting a very "low" WidSet window in website and just a widget high row of widgets into your mobile despite of the massive nice hi-resolution mobile screen ?

This is due to the fact that we are using an open source "table" to identify your mobile phone type. Due to it's open source nature the "table" is not always upto date in terms of the newest phones. In that unfortunate case in which we cannot identify your phone model our system gives the smallest WidSet window at website and allows you to place just one widget on a row to mobile - this has been done in order to try to make something work in all unknown models from the very lowest end phones to newest high end right from the beginning.

If this happens to your new fancy phone, please post your phone model type to forum under this Mobile-related section with an estimate of the phone resolution, and we'll fix the parameters...

Cheers !

I have Nokia N91 and when I downloaded the client it didnät recognize it. I just downloaded the client from Nokia link. Everything so far seems to work except the Flickr client gives pesky small pictures, which is annoying. The screen would have lot more space in it.

The resolution of N91 seems to be normal S60 resoltion 176 x 208.

Hi Oskar

Great to hear that you mananaged to get it rolling...
Valid comment on the pic widget. I just recently changed from 6630 where pics were just the right size to N80 where I experince exactly the same kind of end user experince - pics are too small.
We are working on this to be able to better take into account the large screen phones. We reason why we started this way was that we wanted the picture widgets to work in all phones right from the beginning including 128x128 screen sizes. As I wrote, we improve this in the near future.

Cheers !

BTW The inbox on the mobile is cool, but it doesn't show who wrote the message (bug I guess) and when you do not write your name in the message it is bit anonymous when reading with the widget. The Inbox on the web pages shows the sender nicely.

Hi Oskar.

Your note about the missing sender information relating to the mobile inbox is now noted. Thanks for pointing this out.

Nokia N91 was just added as a "patch" to the phone model recognition database.
It will be in the widsets site soon.

Not sure if this is the same problem, but my Motorola M1000 (Japanese version of the A1000) seems to have the screen cut off at the top (no menus appear). Also, the Options menu that does appear, and the widgets themselves, can't be opened; have tried both the phone's selector key and tapping with the stylus.

Hi aragoto.

There are currently some phone models under which WidSets doesn't really work because of these types of keymapping issues. On these occasions there's a need to figure out which keys we can actually bind and to which specific action they would fit. This information is not really always easy to find and getting it pretty much means that we need to acquire these "special" models and test them internally here.

Even so, we're working very hard to make WidSets available on most of todays models that support Java MIDP 2.0 technology. As a solution, we're building a tester application that can be run on the devices that are experiencing these problems. I'll let you know whenever we have a working tester to hand out and further approach your problem.

Just letting you know here also that to address some of these keymapping related issues, we've put out a "keytester" application.

Feel free to check it out and give us some feedback if you're experiencing similar problems.

I made a post about usage and availability here:

My new Samsung - SGH-D807 phone is not working properly. Hopefully it can get up and running soon!
