Re:Version .99 of widsets is broken!

Hi,

Just downloaded your client twice and still no success in getting widsets to work on my 6233. Install runs without problem and the application launches but I'm left with a blank screen. However, very briefly before the blank screen is displayed I see the message "96U running Nothing to display".

Any idea what is causing this problem? I can't see anything in the forums apart from people saying that the app "doesn't work"/"does work" which isn't much help to be honest. Any suggestions would be welcomed. It's version 0.99 of the App, upgrading the app downloads a jad file that breaks reporting an "invalid directory" when you try to install it. I've cleaned the phone before reinstalling and I've never had a previous version of widsets. Out of ideas?

OK, problem solved but I don't know why. I switched off my phone and turned it back on and it now works fine. As usual a reboot solves 99% of problems. :)

Hi ZGold,

sorry for the very late reply, but if the problem is still the same "Open: java.lang.SecurityException: forced to use http" - so far there is no other way than to re-install the file from Antti's message:

-----
2) Download the application again from with your mobile browser: http://www.widsets.com/widsets.jad

I'm am extremly sorry for that. I will post a message if improvements in sight.

I'm having the same problems ("Invalid message tag") regardless of whether I'm using the "official" download or the link posted above.

Here are some details, maybe they help to solve this eventually:

- Nokia 6280, V 06.10, 21-12-06, RM-78 (same effect w/ previous version, don't have the version number anymore)
- Widsets v .99 (same effect w/ previous versions, .98 I believe)
- Vodafone Germany default APN settings
- very much the same effect for socket and http
- upon 1st launch, I do get the screen where I'm asked to accept the "terms of service", so the network connection seems to work for this part
- other MIDlets using the same German VF APN work fine; some stats:
Google Maps on S40: 3G: OK, WLAN: n/a
Widsets on S40: 3G: NO, WLAN: n/a
Widsets on S60: 3G NO, WLAN: OK

It's not bullet prove, but all this leads me to believe that the widset server side doesn't get along really well w/ the (http) traffic coming from a VF Germany APN.

Anyone around here who had success on Germany's VF network?

BR
Stefan

Hi,

The 'invalid message tag' is specifically an http problem, with proxy servers. The annoying thing is that a mobile phone can have several access points and for one download all will work perfectly, but for another (updated firmware, just plain reinstall) it will pick a different access point and it will just refuse to work.

The difference can even be just in the name of the access point - if it's called 'WAP', it can still not work even though outwardly the details inside could be the same as for 'MMS' or 'INTERNET' or 'PACKET DATA'. If you get this, try to specifically force an access point called 'internet' or 'packet data' or 'gprs' if the one it is using is called 'wap' or 'mms' and is not working.

My advice is to switch connection profiles (for some phone models, you will need an expert, I did) or to turn off proxies temporarily.

If you do not get to the blue background with bubbles on it, then the client is not working. If you do not get your widgets appearing, then it is not connected.

Cheers,

Daniel

Hi hooliganstar,

the client that you have installed, is it surely the new version v.1.0.6 with the new blue color and style? I can imagine that if you have the old version of mobile client (0.99) it keeps the online-offline loop, as the service is no longer available for that one?

How you have re-installed the client? Easiest is to go to My Profile page and open the Settings page and press the "Reload" botton, which will send you the SMS link etc...

You are trying to use the same Internet Access point that you used with the old version, right?
