Unable to install on Nokia E61

Hi

When I try to download from the sms link

it goes to the page identifies my phone correctly gives me the link to download widsets

it let me choose the location to install, downloads the file, then a pop msg will tell me

'Unable to install' the msg will vanish and I will be back in the link, so I click again on the download link then it shows that the download is complete. But when I search for the file in the phone I do not see it anywhere.

Pls help

Hi,

I'm getting the same error on my A780, when i click on download, it says 'invalid package, installation fails'.

Pls help me too..

then copy both files to your phone, install and enjoy.. ;)

Hi there,

I'm facing same problem.

My Nokia E70 refuses to install widsets.

Error message is simply: "Unable to install" without any further details.

I tried to download the files you mention thanis, but manually installing them leads to the same "Unable to install" error.

Any help ?

I had widsets installed and working on my E70 with previous firmware 2.x

I'm now on 3.x FW

Hi mambo and OdynOOb,

we have tested both devices with several sw version and the WidSets installation has worked fine.

Currently in E61 we are using sw 2.0618.06.05.

mambo, which version you are using? Have you tried to use the file download via PC?

And in E70 the sw we are running is 3.0633.09.04

We try to keep on digging why the installation fails in your devices, cause obviously there is plenty of same phone models having no problems at all.

If you would like to help us, please send more detailed information on sw to me as a private message and other possible details which could effect to the strange behaviour.

Hopefully we get this sorted out.

Hi Taña and thanks for your help.

I can't think of any other details that could matter.

The only "strange" thing I'm aware of is that, as I mentionned, I had widsets working fine before my fw upgrade.

Now when I try to reinstall it, it detects that previous (0.98) version is allready installed and asks if I want to replace it with new (0.99) version.
(So far so good).

What's strange here, is allthough widsets 0.98 is considered installed on my phone, I can't find it anywhere.

It's even not mentionned in "App. mgr."
Hence I also can't uninstall it.

I can imagine that could be the root of my installation problem, even if it doesn't complain it can't uninstall previous version (which allready hapened to me with other software), but just states "Can't install".

Do you know how we could manually uninstall it ?
(Deleting what files through an advanced phone browser).

Also I wasn't able to download the widsets installation files to the pc and try the installation this way, could you provide a direct link to the correct files for E70 please ?

Hi OdynOOb,

what might be helpful to know is the sw version of your mobile. Please, press *#0000# and you will see the version number on the display.

Which is the operator you're using? Is the phone any operator specific version?

We have not found a file browser that would help you to delete the installation files. Have you found one? If yes, I will find out the files that needs to be deleted.

Was the old version of WidSets installed in phone memory or memory card? Formatting the card or the phone is one way to solve the problem, but not certainly a user friendly way.

The files that are in this tread are the files that should work in E70 as well, so there isn't any other files that you should try to use.

I hope we get this sorted out soon.

PS. After fw update, did the restore of old data go ok? In which state the client offered you the new version of Widsets?

The exact FW version is 3.0633.09.04 20-11-06 RM-10 Nokia E70
(I mentionned 3.x as there's only one 3.x version and I never remember the exact version ...)

Operator should't matter, the phone is operator free.
(my operator is Swisscom, in Switerland).

I have many file browsers, I'm allmost sure I'll find a way to delete the files if you can tell which ones to delete.

I don't remember where I had installed the old version.
I usually prefer to install anything on the memcard, not the phone memory.

As mentionned earlier, I did try the files in this thread, but got the same installation error.

After fw update, everything was properly restored BUT many applications where NOT reinstalled properly.
I had to reinstall some of them in order for them to work properly.

Regarding widsets, I can't tell 100% but I'm allmost sure I did not see/reuse widsets after the fw upgrade.
(So apps did not show at all after the upgrade, some wouldn't launched, ...)

So widets was probably one of the apps that where not properly reinstalled after fw upgrade.

I for sure now widsets was working on previous 2.x fw, as I remember using and appreciating it.

Hi,

It sounds like your firmware update wasn't totally clean. Usually, if you have applications even on your memory card installed, after a firmware update you must reinstall them before they will work.

In fact, if you upgraded your firmware you were probably told to format the filesystem - what I would suggest is to do the firmware upgrade again, if possible, after moving all of your personal data off of the memory card as well as the phone (and backing up all contacts).

What is most likely is that you have some remnant files of widsets installed somewhere, and the installer is balking at installing them again when they already exist...they will be impossible to find with the standard filesystem tools, you'll need to hunt for something free and a bit more powerful. I can't recall what these extra files are called, but you'll know it when you see it. They'll be in the same place as the widsets jar.

I've allready done the fw upgrade twice, not (yet) ready to do it a third time.

There's little that can go wrong during the upgrade, as the phone memory is formated during the process.
And if it DOES go wrong, you end up with a brick ...

And why would it be just widsets that complains ?
There's likely something in your installation procedure that fails.
Like trying to uninstall the old version when it's no longer available.

Your installation procedure likely finds some file(s) that should no longer be there and/or checks the phone log and supposes widsets is allready installed (when it's not), and hence aborts the installation when it fails to uninstall it.

Your help to find what files should be manually removed would be really appreciated.

Unless you can make a special version for me that would just bypass that check and force the new versions install ?
